YANGGAW THE FAMILY DRAMA HORROR THAT THE AUDIENCE WILL LOVE!

Catch the highly acclaimed horror movie Yanggaw at the IndieSine of the Robinson’s Galleria from July 29 to August 4, 2009!

Being a horror movie, this Cinema One Original movie of award-winning writer-director Richard Somes which stars acclaimed and multi-awarded actors such as Ronnie Lazaro, Joel Torre and Tetchie Agbayani and featuring a breakthrough performance by a newcomer Aleera Montalla its storyline is deeply rooted on family values and family life. Yanggaw is arguably the first Cinema One movie to tackle a dark yet very new side of what a family does, can go through, why and how it confronts and exorcises its own problems.

Filmmaker and writer Somes who anchors on the family being a complete community inside the home stresses that when he wrote the movie’s story approximately four years ago aims to make Yanggaw forego the clannish, grounded or sentimental attitude a family has over a member who becomes its prodigal, problem or deteriorated member. “Yanggaw is my statement to society. Yanggaw is a metaphor of addiction, bad deeds or problems a family member does na naapektuhan ang family niya; example a prodigal member who’s existence is already dark that he or she is unwanted already by his or her own family. Yanggaw will show what will happen to a family who has this type of a member. Kadalasan kasi sa pamilya kahit anong mangyari tanggap pa rin ang ganitong member. Disagreeable iyon eh. So ang isang member na bulok ang existence, if a family will keep him or her, the entire family will fall apart. Kung tutuusin mali iyon”.

This statement makes Yanggaw an intelligent horror movie because aside from its family values “where there are changes needed to be done to eventually effect change also to our society,” Somes says, “Yanggaw is my statement to society. Kadalasan kasi sa pamilya kahit anong mangyari tanggap pa rin ang ganitong member. Disagreeable iyon eh. So ang isang member na bulok ang existence, if a family will keep him or her, the entire family will fall apart. I want viewers to see na sa pamilya rin, mayroong hangganan sa ganitong klaseng family member, anak man or magulang. Compromises have to be done.”

Yanggaw’s plotline is a simple family with an extraordinary problem. Living in far-flung province and whose environment still believes in dark myths and superstitious beliefs that their life did not seem to advance, their simple lives became complex when their youngest member, the daughter is stricken with an illness no doctor could cure or diagnose. Suddenly they realize she is already… na-ya-yanggaw , slowly transforming into an aswang .

Take the entire family to a different viewing! Yanggaw will run at the Robinson’s Galleria IndieSine from July 29 to August 4. Celebrate with Cinema One's 15 years of evolution as a major contributing force in local cinema.
