Saturday, August 22, 2009

The stage is all set, the hosts and performers have been chosen, all 84 gorgeous candidates are in, and the universe’s most coveted crown awaits its new queen. Will Philippines’ bet Bianca Manalo take home the title and become the next Miss Universe?

Find out this Monday (Aug 24) as ABS-CBN brings you to the crowning moment of the much-awaited “Miss Universe 2009” live via satellite in the Bahamas at 9:30 AM with a primetime telecast the same day via Velvet (SkyCable channel 53) at 8 PM, and on Tue (Aug 25), 8 PM on Studio 23.

The 22-year old flight stewardess already proved to be an early crowd favorite as she wowed the audience with her presence and performance during the recent Miss Universe pre-pageant. Bianca, who stands 5 feet 10 inches tall, strutted her statuesque physique that night during the swimsuit competition and elegantly carried her aqua blue gown designed by a famous Colombian designer in the evening gown competition.

Bianca is also getting good reviews online and one of the candidates with the highest ratings in the official Miss Universe website where she ranked 7th. The last time the Philippines won the Miss Universe title was in 1973 with Margie Moran, which was four years after Gloria Diaz won the title in 1969.

With this, the whole Filipino community here and abroad are very hopeful that Bianca becomes the successor to Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza in the highly-anticipated pageant night to be held at Atlantis, Paradise Island in Bahamas with “Access Hollywood” co-anchor Billy Bush and “Celebrity Apprentice” star Claudia Jordan as hosts.

Among the distinguished international panel of judges who face the difficult task of choosing the winner is actor and producer Dean Cain. International superstar Flo Rida is also set to perform his hits, “Right Round” and “Jump” for the Swimsuit Competition portion of the telecast while David Guetta and Kelly Rowland will set the mood for the Evening Gown portion with their hit single, “When Love Takes Over.”

For more updates, keep tuning in at “Umagang Kay Ganda,” “TV Patrol World,” “Bandila,” and ANC as ABS-CBN’s senior sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo, who is now in Bahamas, constantly keeps in touch with Bianca to bring you the latest news about her and the pageant.

This via satellite coverage marks the third consecutive year that ABS-CBN was chosen by the Miss Universe organization to be its exclusive media partner here in the Philippines. ABS-CBN also aired the 2004 Miss Universe pageant held in Manila, where Miss India Shusmita Sen took home the crown.
