Cinema One holds fans day for "Paano Ko Sasabihin" stars Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzalez

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Considered as one of their generation’s hottest love teams, Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzalez is set to pass on their compelling small screen chemistry to their first silver screen team-up via the Cinema One Originals movie “Paano Ko Sasabihin.”

The film will be screened from April 16 to 22 at all SM Cinemas all over Metro Manila. In line with the theatrical screening, Cinema One, will be treating avid supporters of Erich and Enchong with an afternoon filled with fun and excitement. The fans day will be on April 7, 4pm at SM North EDSA Annex, Entertainment Plaza.

Paano Ko Sasabihin is an unpredictable light romantic comedy about two strangers who can ‘hear’ the call of love by using their hearts. Enchong and Erich play the role of deaf-mute lovers in the film, where Enchong’s character knows sign language since he teaches this in the school where he works while Erich’s character knows how to sign language because of her deaf-mute brother.

The extraordinary chemistry of the “EnRich” loveteam is well received by critics and viewers alike. Apart from successfully proving their strength as a team-up on two of ABS-CBN’s top-rating soaps Katorse and Tanging Yaman, Erich and Enchong have further impressed the public with their performance on Paano Ko Sasabihin. In fact, because of the film's success, Enchong is nominated as New Movie Actor of the Year at the 26th PMPC Star Awards for Movies 2010.

Combined with an unpretentious unique plotline and well chosen interesting locations like that of the metro train or MRT, the unique charm of Erich and Enchong was significant in making the film one of the biggest winners in the latest Cinema One Originals Digital Movie Festival where it bagged the following awards--Best Editing, Special Mention Award and the Audience Choice Award for Best Digital Movie.

Paano Ko Sasabihin was written and directed by Richard Legaspi, a graduate of the Asian Film Academy in Pusan, South Korea. His films have been screened at the Pusan, Dubai, Pyongyang, Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, and many other festivals. His short film “Ambulancia” won at the Festival Internazionale del Cortometraggio San Gio in Verona, Italy. He was also the first Filipino filmmaker invited to the 32nd Film Festival Weiterstadt in Germany and first Asian filmmaker nominated in Grand OFF European Film Awards in Warsaw, Poland.

STATEMENT OF ANC ON MTRCB's X RATING OF 2 AMBISYON FILMS

Saturday, March 27, 2010

Two of AmBisyon’s films, directed by internationally acclaimed filmmakers Jeffrey Jeturian and Brillante Mendoza, were rated X on March 25, by the MTRCB.

Jeturian’s film for ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, focused on the state of the economy. His camera follows a newspaper from the time it is delivered to a homeowner to when it is used to wipe feces from the foot of a cart-pushing vendor. Jeturian uses a newspaper printed with the same controversial advertisement that came out in early January trumpeting the administration’s economic successes. The film, called “Ganito tayo ngayon, Paano na tayo bukas?” ends with President Arroyo’s photo on the crumpled newspaper.

The MTRCB said in its decision that the film was X-rated for “undermining the faith and confidence of the people in government.”

Mendoza’s film, “Ayos Ka” is a music video whose hopeful soundtrack is a stark contrast against images of poverty, prostitution, drugs and murder.

The MTRCB claimed Mendoza’s film is “injurious to the prestige of the Republic of the Philippines and its people."

ANC produced the AmBisyon 2010 film series in the name of public interest, to offer a nation on the verge of a critical election the chance to focus on issues, not personalities. It is an advocacy shared by the film industry. Twenty of the country’s most powerful voices in cinema have offered their talents gratis to each create a short film on a chosen issue.

The films are scheduled to screen on April 6 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and in a five-episode weekly series over ANC and Studio 23 beginning April 9.

We in ANC respect due process, and will be requesting a second review on Monday. We hope the MTRCB will reconsider.

We support our filmmakers in their decision not to revise their films. While the views of the 20 amBisyon’s filmmakers may not necessarily reflect ANC'S, we believe these films are legitimate perspectives of the state of the nation.

We trust in the public’s capacity to decide whether they will claim these views as their own.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON SHOWTIME

The decision was not totally unexpected. The MTRCB committee hearing the case could not have contradicted the Chairman who had earlier issued a preventive suspension order of Showtime.

ABS-CBN questioned the validity of the preventive suspension order and filed a complaint with the Ombudsman against the MTRCB chairman for violation of the anti-graft and corrupt practices act.

The MTRCB decision is not final and executory. ABS-CBN disagrees with the decision and will appeal such to the Office of the President.

ABS-CBN STATEMENT ON "HARAPAN" DEBATE

Voter's education is at the heart of Ako ang Simula. That's why we mounted at least a dozen forums and debates in the past few months. This is public service.
The response we received from last week's Harapan was overwhelming. ABS-CBN set the stage. The questions and reactions - the content of the program - came from candidates and viewers. It is the most interactive debate we have ever had in this country.

We are disappointed key candidates decided they had better things to do than face our nation. It seemed they were driven by fear: afraid to appear together as their party’s president and vice-president; afraid to be immediately judged based on their actions and words.

In the end, we all lose.

New Military Policy in USA

Friday, March 26, 2010

In the height of gays joining the military it became more of an issue if they are capable to perform their duties. There is a new military policy that will check and investigate on gays in the US military but no one knows what will happen if they discover the gays in the group, more if the possible thing that they will be doing is illegal and against human rights.Mixed emotions arises from the military telling that they don't see any problem as long as "gay" soldier is doing his job as part of the military team.

Watch UFC 111: St-Pierre vs Hardy Live Stream

For the first time in 2010, two world titles will be on the line for four of the biggest stars in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) this Saturday, March 27 (Sunday in Manila) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It will be Canadian mixed martial artist Georges “Rush” St-Pierre versus Britain’s Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy for the UFC welterweight title and Frank Mir versus Shane Carwin for the interim heavyweight title.

In a recent exclusive conference call for “UFC 111: St-Pierre vs Hardy”, defending UFC welterweight champion St-Pierre admitted that there is pressure on him to do well but he is up to the challenge. “I believe I have a lot more pressure than Dan Hardy and that’s a good thing because I had a lot of pressure in all of my big fights. When I’m under pressure I’m more nervous which makes me more awake and my reaction time is better, so that’s a good thing for me.”

When asked about his opponent, St-Pierre described Hardy as a dangerous guy. “A lot of people underestimate Dan Hardy and it’s a big mistake. Hardy is the most dangerous guy that I’ve fought so far.  He’s a thinking fighter surrounded by a great team.”

But despite his praises, GSP was certain to he will keep his title. “Nobody’s invincible, but right now I’m the best Georges St-Pierre I ever been for this fight and I train myself to fight an army of men, so one guy will not be able to break me.”

Fresh from his wins over Marcus Davis and Mike Swick, Hardy, on the other hand, was vocal about eyeing to snatch off the title and saw the bout as a great situation for him. “The only reason I’m in the UFC is because Georges has got something I want and that’s what I’m here to do.  I’m going to do my best to take the title off him and that’s what I’m here for. It’s a great opportunity and I’ve got nothing to lose.  I’m in a situation where I can go and just have a good time and be myself and you know make a fight out of it.”

Aside from the St-Pierre vs Hardy fight, an interim UFC heavyweight championship clash will take place between former heavyweight champion Frank Mir and number one contender Shane Carwin.

Other UFC 111 bouts are Jon Fitch vs Thiago Alves, Ben Saunders vs Jake Ellenberger, Jim Miller vs Mark Bocek, Ricardo “Big Dog” Almeida vs Matt “The Immortal” Brown, Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino vs Fabricio “Morango” Camoes, and Matthew Riddle vs Greg Soto.

It will also be aired live on ABS-CBN 2 at 9:30am.

One of the world’s most watched awards show, The 82nd Academy Awards - more popularly known as the Oscars - is an annual event presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honor and recognize various professionals in the film industry, including writers, directors and actors who exemplify excellence in their field. The oldest award ceremony in media and one of the most prominent and respected award giving bodies, this year’s masters of ceremony will be award-winning funnymen Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

This year, the academy will honor extraordinary achievements in film, acting, writing and technical executions in 24 categories. Among the movies leading the nominee pack are Avatar and The Hurt Locker with nine apiece. Coincidentally, James Cameron  and Katherine Bigelow, both up for a Best Director nod, are each other’s exes. Inglourious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino’s cinematic take on war and revenge, follows suit with eight nominations. Rounding out the forerunners are the already mutli-awarded Precious: Based on The Novel Push by Sapphire and the George Clooney starrer Up In the Air. For the acting categories, Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side), Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart), Mo’Nique (Precious) and Christophe Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) are among those favored to win, having received acting nods at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors’ Guild Awards. For the first time in Oscar history, the academy has nominated 10 films – “Avatar”, “The Hurt Locker”, “Inglourious Basterds”, “The Blind Side,” “District 9,” “An Education,” “Precious: based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire,” “A Serious Man,” “Up” and “Up in the air” – in the Best Picture category.

Plus, Oscar is putting on a youthful face, recruiting teen superstars Miley Cyrus, Zac Efron, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart to serve as presenters on this year's kudocast. This will mark the second time Cyrus and Efron have served as Oscar presenters, and the first time out for "Twilight" stars Lautner and Stewart.

To kick off the Oscars fever, Velvet mounts an on-ground campaign, The Oscars Tribute Exhibit 2010.  This photo exhibit, which made its debut last year, showcases memorable scenes from Oscar-winning movies, as interpreted by powerhouse teams made of actors, models, celebrities, stylists, makeup artists and photographers.  This year, the theme is Most Memorable Couples and Dynamic Duos. 2009 champion University of Perpetual Help Dalta System will attempt to defend its title in NCC’s collegiate coed division against last year’s runner-ups, the University of the Cordilleras and Xavier University-Ateneo De Cagayan and formidable foes Central Colleges of the Philippines, Rizal Technological University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Taguig, and darkhorses De La Salle University, Jose Rizal University, and Ateneo De Manila University.

The live coverage came up after a recent partnership signed by ABS-CBN Vice President for Sports Peter Musngi and NCC President and COO Carlos Valdes III.
