PBB BIG WINNER MELISSA CANTIVEROS ON THE BOTTOMLINE

Friday, February 19, 2010

Television interviews have never been this bold and feisty until “The Bottomline” came into the boob tube.

Hosted by the country’s King of Talk Boy Abunda, “The Bottomline” has dramatically changed the face of one-on-one interviews as it fearlessly touched the most sensitive issues of every controversial personality.

Where does he get the courage to ask? “I can ask any question and I deserve to be asked any question also. Kunwari, if I have the balls to ask ‘Are you gay? Are you still a virgin?’ people can also ask me the same questions. Dapat patas,” Boy revealed. He added, “I do extensive research. I read a lot. We structure questions but I don’t literally read them. I don’t know my first question until I am in front of my guest. And it’s not about asking the right or the wrong question but you will know what to ask when you’re there. That’s the trick.”

In an interview, when asked if there is one person he would love to appear in ‘The Bottomline’, he answered “I’m coming from the point that  I’ve reach that stage in my career where I’ve stopped dreaming of dream interviews because I’ve been fortunate to have been able to do interviews with the people I’ve wanted to interview. At saka dumating na rin ako sa stage ng buhay ko na hindi ako namimili. Kahit sino pwede ko interview-hin. I think everybody has a story, it largely depends on how the story is told.”

Boy’s passion for the show cannot be denied. In fact, the host shared, “I’ve spoken with Cory (Vidanes) and told her, kahit pa alas-dos ito ng madaling araw, for as long as you allow me to do this material I’ll do it.”

He further detailed, “This is the show that I’d like to grow old with. Ito yung show na gusto kong gawin until I am 70 because this is not attached to age or beauty.”

From Hayden Kho’s defender, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, to Jason Ivler’s mother, Marlene Aguilar, “The Bottomline” has grilled the hottest personalities in front of the viewing public with questions coming from the ‘Bottomliners’.

This Saturday, a special “The Bottomline” episode is on your way. As Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Double Up Big Winner Melissa ‘Melai’ Cantiveros takes the hot seat, PBB Double Up 3rd Big Placer, Jason Franciso, joins the group of bottomliners. Questions encompassing Melai’s stand on pre-marital sex, education, her dreams, her thoughts on our government system, her past relationships and her current boyfriend, Jason will all be tackled.

“The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” airs every Saturday on ABS-CBN after the primetime telecast of Banana Split.

Will the Philippines find its own Susan Boyle who conquered the world with her singing prowess? The country's biggest and only nationwide talent-reality show "Pilipinas Got Talent" kicks off this Saturday (Feb) 20 on ABS-CBN with 60-yr old women strutting to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” to a 12-yr old kid belting out Nicole Scherzinger.

From the international franchise that discovered and continues to discover world class acts, “Pilipinas Got Talent” will feature the best and only the finest Pinoy talents from all over the country, covering all age groups, doing outstanding and breath-taking acts ranging from the usual singing, dancing, and acting pieces all the way to the weird, funny, and extraordinary acts.

"Pilipinas Got Talent" is hosted by Billy Crawford and Luis Manzano. The grand winner of this competition will take home P2 million. But before that, every hopeful must first be able to impress and get at least two approvals from PGT’s distinguished panel of judges— the country’s queen of all media Kris Aquino, comedy-concert queen Ai Ai Delas Alas, and former ABS-CBN President and COO Freddie M. Garcia a.k.a. FMG.

“I will not be swayed by beauty or gwapo, but just in pure talent. I will be fair but will be very analytical. I will look at all the elements of the performing talent or what we call the ‘x-factor.’ That’s what we are looking for,” said FMG or also rightfully called as the ‘expert’ being responsible for the success of many programs and artists in the entertainment industry.

Auditions started at the end of 2009 and thousands of PGT hopefuls flocked to the audition venues for a shot of becoming the first “Pilipinas Got Talent” winner.

Kris, in her Sunday entertainment show “The Buzz,” was quite impressed with the array of talents she have witnessed so far as she proudly commended the participants who made it to the first screening.

“You can definitely see how talented Filipinos are in all possible acts you can think of from singing all the way to doing magic and acrobatic stunts,” said Kris. “There is actually one contestant that I want to give a record deal already and there is this one group who can actually compete with acts in Las Vegas. They are that good.’

At the end of the semi-finals, only a few will be proclaimed finalists and the people will then have the power to choose who among them got the talent by voting for the finalist of their choice.

Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Bernabe Concepcion, Ciso Morales, and Gerry Peñalosa are heading to an all-out war on Valentine’s Day as they aim to sweep their fights with Puerto Rican fighters on “Pinoy Power 3.”

The jam-packed card will be broadcast live from Las Vegas, USA this Sunday (Feb 14), 10:30am on ABS-CBN, through a partnership between boxing promotion company Top Rank and ABS-CBN Sports.

Donaire will defend his WBA superflyweight interim champion title against knockout artist Gerson “El Nene” Guerrero in his third “Pinoy Power” fight. “I’m really committed in just going for it and not thinking about all the other stuff," Donaire said in an interview with Steve Kim of MaxBoxing.com.

Concepcion, who is training hard in the Wild Card Gym for his fight against Mario Santiago, aims to follow the footsteps of his manager Manny Pacquiao. “It’s great to be training with him. When we get to share the ring, he teaches me footwork and gives me tips in fighting,” Concepcion shared during an interview by ABS-CBN sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo for “TV Patrol World.”

Ring veteran Gerry Peñalosa also takes inspiration from Pacquiao, his friend and idol. The 37-year-old pugilist is confident he can still win his third belt by first defeating Eric Morel in an eliminator. Undefeated Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales, on the other hand, is fighting for his first title as he challenges Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel for the WBO bantamweight championship on Sunday (Feb 14).

Also fighting in the undercard is Filipino Mark Melligen who will battle undefeated Texan Raymond Gatica.

Two of the country’s seasoned journalists—Ces Orena Drilon and Ricky Carandang—will be anchoring “The Rundown” on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, starting March 1 at 8 p.m.
The show brings together their years of experience as broadcast journalists, banking on Drilon’s passion for details and Carandang’s deft analysis of fast-moving events.
The hour-long newscast aims to capture the biggest stories of the day and put them in perspective.
